Campaign Manager - Campaign Manager (Silverlight)

Program Audience Rules in Campaigns

When you link a Program to a Campaign, if the Audience has already been specified in the Program, it will be joined with the Campaign Audience.

If any additional segmentation is performed in the Campaign it will affect that Campaign only - the Audience specified on the Program does not change, and other Campaigns that use that Program do not change.

However, if a change is made to the Audience Rules within the Program, then all Campaigns linked to the Program will be updated to reflect the changes.

Note:

When changes are made to a Program Document after it has been linked to a Campaign, you must process the Document using the Run button before saving it, so that the changes are picked up by any linked Campaigns.

How Inclusion and Exclusion totals work when combining Program Audiences and Campaign Audiences

Audiences are comprised of Inclusions and Exclusions, both are optional. If you have no Inclusions, the entire campaign key table is included in the campaign audience. If you have no Exclusions, nothing will be excluded from the campaign audience.

If you use Inclusions and Exclusions at Program and campaign level, it is important to understand the logic that is used to 'join' them, so you obtain the desired results for your audiences.

The 'joining' logic for Inclusions

Program Inclusions: they are master inclusion segments created on the Programs Audience page (Variable Manager > New Program button > Audience tab). They can consist of one or more Segments that are joined by the OR operator.

Campaign Inclusions Segments: the segments that are created on the Campaign Audience tab, they are used in that Campaign only. Each Campaign segment is joined by the OR operator.

Program Inclusions are joined to the Campaign Inclusion Segments using the AND operator.

  • Example - you want your audience to consist of 19 year old females and 20 year old males living in England:
    • You have already set up a Program Inclusion for people living in England, and added it to the Campaign Overview, let's call this PIEngland
    • You have set up one Campaign Inclusion Segment for 19 year old females, let's call this Seg1
    • You have set up one Campaign Inclusion Segment for 20 year old males, let's call this Seg2
    • When you calculate the Total figure for the Inclusion Segments panel, the segments are joined using the following logic: PIEngland AND (Seg1 OR Seg2)

The 'joining' logic for Exclusions

Program Exclusions: these are master exclusion segments created on the Programs Audience page (Variable Manager > New Program button > Audience tab). They can consist of one or more Segments that are joined by the OR operator.

Campaign Exclusions Segments: the individual segments that are created on the Campaign Audience tab, each Campaign segment is joined by the OR operator.

All Exclusions regardless of whether they are Program Exclusions or Campaign Exclusion Segments, are joined using the OR operator. This is basically a list of people that will be excluded from the Audience.

  • Example: you want your audience to exclude people who live Scotland and also those that live in bungalows or apartments
    • You have already set up a Program Exclusion for people living in Scotland, and added it to the Campaign Overview, let's call this PEScotland
    • You have set up one Campaign Exclusion Segment for bungalows, let's call this Seg3
    • You have set up one Campaign Exclusion Segment for apartments, let's call this Seg4
    • When you calculate the Total figure for the Exclusion Segments panel, the segments are joined using the following logic: PEScotland OR Seg3 OR Seg4

The logic for 'joining' Inclusions and Exclusions

The total Audience is calculated by:

Total_Inclusions EXCLUDE Total_Exclusions
